LOCKWOOD WINDOWS TEAM RUN TO RAISE MONEY FOR BONE CANCER RESEARCH TRUST CHARITY

Every year, around 560 people in the UK will be told they have primary bone cancer, this equates to around 10 people each week, with a 5-year survival rate at around 50-55%.

This month, the team here at Lockwood Windows have been supporting the Bone Cancer Research Trust by running 56 miles to raise awareness for this charity, and the invaluable work that it does.

Luke and Ella Pogson

Primary bone cancer can develop in any bone in the body, the most common place is in the lower limbs (legs), such as the thigh bone (femur) or shin bone (tibia). This is followed by the hip (pelvis) and the bones of the upper limbs (arm), such as the humerus.

Being a family-run business, we’re a close knit team, which is why we’d like to share our backstory which hits very close to home. In August 2023, a beloved family member of ours was diagnosed with primary bone cancer and, since then, we’ve held her hand and supported her through her brave battle.

Thankfully, she has recovered well but it has subsequently brought its own set of challenges for her. From numerous hospital appointments to her daily quality of life, we’ve seen how primary bone cancer can impact people’s lives in so many ways. Fast forward to the present day, her life has changed considerably. For instance, having oral surgery to remove 60% of her jaw now means that she cannot consume overly hard foods. This means she has to be extra careful with her diet and how she eats. This is just one of the many ways in which her daily life has been impacted.

Additionally, a close family friend has also fought her own personal battle with osteosarcoma, at just 16 years old, resulting in her having to have her leg amputated. However, she is now 12 years cancer free and living a wonderfully happy life!

This month, team members Ella, Lorraine and Luke have been running 56 miles across the month to raise money and awareness for the Bone Cancer Research Trust, and Luke will also be running a marathon locally too. To date they have raised an amazing ÂŁ650 with hopefully more to come!

More information can be found about the charity and how you can offer your support here. Whether you’re donating, or raising money by climbing a mountain or even organising a tea party, join us in raising money and awareness for this charity!

A big “thank you” from all of us at Lockwood.
