The benefits of PVCu windows

Published: 23rd January 2018

Buying replacement windows for a property is a big decision, so it’s important that you make the right one. To help you decide, we’ve outlined some of the benefits of PVCu window frames:

1. PVCu is durable

With PVCu windows, you don’t need to worry about the quality of your windows declining too quickly. PVCu is durable, weather-resistant and corrosion-resistant, meaning that even in stormy conditions, rain water won’t penetrate the surface of the frame. Timber frames can rot or start to warp over time, while PVCu will remain strong and not let the cold and damp into your home.

2. Easy to maintain

Because of how durable they are, PVCu windows are very easy to maintain and look after. They won’t rot or rust, so all you need to clean your window frames is a soft damp cloth, using a mild cleaning solution and clean warm water. For full details of how to look after your new windows, read our maintenance advice here.

3. Choice of colours

When you buy new replacement PVCu windows, you are given a wide selection of colour options to choose from. As standard, we offer ten different foil-laminated colours (with dual colours available) for all of our PVCu window frames and doors, including classic White, Black and the popular French Grey.

And if you love the appearance of wooden frames, you can also have your PVCu windows finished in the colours Oak, Irish Oak or Rosewood to give the look of timber, without any of the drawbacks.

4. Energy efficient

Another benefit of PVCu is its thermal efficiency. When used in combination with energy efficient double glazing (such as the Pilkington KS Glass used in our windows), high-quality PVCu is effective at preventing heat from escaping through the windows and helps to maintain a consistent temperature in the room.

However, when choosing the frames for your new windows, be sure to ask what exactly they consist of - some manufacturers only use a thermal plastic sleeve for reinforcement, which is great for energy efficiency, but not for security.

Lockwood Windows never compromise on the quality of our windows. That’s why we offer our customers the Kommerling 070 and C70 frame system, which are both highly energy efficient and secure with galvanised steel reinforcements, multi-point locking systems, shoot bolts and internal beading.
