ESSENTIAL WINTER MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR YOUR HOME

How to prepare your property for harsh weather conditions

Winter is now upon us, with the mornings becoming darker and the evenings becoming longer so now is the time to consider how to prepare your property for the harsh weather conditions that lie ahead.

In this blog post we reveal some of our top tips on how to maintain your property ahead of winter and how this can benefit your home.

Cold weather and winter conditions can highlight areas within your home that may need some TLC, therefore carrying out maintenance on your doors and windows ahead of the winter months is essential. With this in mind, here are some of the main tips we recommend:

  • Visual check – The first key tip we advise is to make a note of any potential problem areas by visually checking your windows and doors to see what may or may not need doing. By doing so, you’ll have a greater understanding of the maintenance your home may require or if your doors and windows will benefit from being replaced.

  • Tighten fixtures and fittings – Over time, older doors and windows can become loose and let cold draughts and noise seep into your home. By checking and tightening hinges or fixtures you can ensure that your doors and windows are not only retaining more heat but also ensuring they’re secure.

  • Replace windows and doors – Older windows and doors are one of the main reasons cold draughts enter the home. By replacing your windows and doors you can reduce your energy bills and significantly improve heat retention within your property.

  • Tackle draughts – If replacing your windows and doors isn’t a viable option, draught excluders and insulation strips are a cost effective solution and can help to keep cold draughts at bay.

  • Squeaky clean – Due to their fade resistant, thermo plastic skins, our composite doors require minimal maintenance, we simply recommend using warm soapy water and a soft dry cloth to clean your composite door to ensure it looks fresh and pristine for years to come.

Our windows and doors

Our high-quality uPVC windows are weather-proof and resistant to corrosion or warping therefore if you're considering replacing your current windows these are an excellent option as they’re able to withstand the test of time, and the worst weather conditions! Available in a selection of foil laminated colours to enhance durability, there is something to suit every style of property.

In addition to this, our uPVC windows are available with the option to have a different coloured internal frame to the exterior of your property, therefore if you opt for a bold colour externally you also have the option to choose a more subtle colour such as white that blends in seamlessly with your internal decor.

In response to the changing climate, traditional wooden doors can swell, crack or shrink depending on the weather. Notoriously throughout winter, wooden doors are known to under perform in terms of energy efficiency, functionality and performance. In comparison, our composite doors are the ideal solution as they’re hard wearing and designed to withstand the gruelling weather conditions.

Featuring a 48mm thick solid timber core with a Kommerling outer frame, our thermally efficient composite doors are also reinforced with galvanised steel to ensure exceptional levels of security. In addition to this, we use an Astral S pick resistant multi point locking system to provide enhanced protection against physical attack.

Available in a wide variety of colours and styles, you can customise your brand new composite door to create a truly unique and welcoming entryway to your home.
